A Short History

What began in 1979 as a home based business has culminated today in one of Oak Harbor's successful small businesses. Berg Tax and Financial Services began at the former owner's dining room table, and expanded into a suite of offices at the Cascade Place Office Building in 1993. The company resides there today under the leadership of Dale Williams.

As a tax and accounting office providing a full range of services, Berg & Associates Tax and Financial Services can help meet the needs of the individual taxpayer as well as the established small business or corporation. A staff of four, share combined experience of more than 100 years in tax and financial services.

One of our specialties is small business counseling, and business planning. Time spent explaining the pros and cons of other business considerations is a critical part of each interview. We find personal pleasure in being part of your team's success.

One of our trademarks is focusing on each client's unique needs. First, we listen to our client's needs and concerns; secondly, we ask questions designed to save you money, and insure compliance with the State and Federal Tax issues. This personalized interview allows us to probe beyond final figures into forward looking tax planning. Decreasing our client's tax liability within legal boundaries is a primary goal. We find that, oftentimes,, our interviews result in either increasing your refund, or in preventing errors that could result in future penalties and interest being assessed.

We also recognize the position of trust our clients give us and look forward to serving them for many more years. Referrals are always welcome and appreciated; recognizing that the greatest compliment our clients can give us is their referral of others.

Our Staff

Dale Williams - President

A former US Army officer, Vietnam Veteran, and a Pacific Northwesterner for over 15 years, Dale holds an MBA, and has completed significant executive training and post-post graduate work. With over thirty years in Senior Corporate Financial Management positions in the Aerospace Industry and others, Dale's expertise is in the forward planning and analysis of businesses. He believes that a comprehensive Personal and/or Business Financial Plan is among the greatest gifts that can be given to future generations. Dale, his wife and two children, enjoy entertaining in their home, participating in the community, and traveling around the Pacific Northwest.

Jeff Tompkins - Tax Department Manager

A retired Naval Supply Officer and business graduate of Pacific Lutheran University, Jeff has been preparing taxes and providing financial service advice since 1991. In his spare time, Jeff enjoys golf, camping, walking, and is an active volunteer at his local church.

Sharon Owens - Accountant and Tax Preparer

A veteran tax preparer with 27 years of experience, Sharon brings a wealth of knowledge to Berg & Associates. An avid gardener, Sharon and her Husband also enjoy her two cats, Calvin and Hobbes.

Ann Hartman - Office Manager/Accountant

Ann, her husband, and son, have lived in Oak Harbor for 17 years, though they have been married for 36 years. Ann is a highly experienced accountant of 38 years, as well as a tax preparer for 32 years. She enjoys weaving baskets and needlepoint, and has 2 dogs, Rosey and Sweet Pea, as well as a cat. She likes her work to be "Penny perfect".
